iOS 16 Cydia Impactor

Cydia Impactor comes to mind whenever you need to install IPA files on iOS devices. Impactor has been broken since version 0.9.52 due to a server-side change on Apple’s servers.

Cydia’s IPA installer can only be used to sign and sideload iOS apps with a premium Apple Developer Account.

Cydia Impactor is available for Linux, Mac, and Windows.

What exactly is a Cydia Impactor?

At the end of 2019, Cydia Impactor was the best and only solution for signing IPA files and installing them on iPhone or iPad devices. This IPA signing tool is no longer in development and can only install IPA files with a paid developer account ($99 per year). The iOS 16 operating system is also supported.

Jay Freeman (the author of Cydia) created Impactor as a tool to sideload IPA files containing jailbreak software.

The IPA file contains a binary application for the ARM architecture and can only be installed on an iOS device. IPA files can contain jailbreak tools, applications, games, and other items.

Installing IPA files with Cydia Impactor is easy on both jailbroken and non-jailbroken iOS 11, iOS 12, iOS 13, iOS 14, iOS 15, and iOS 15-16 devices. Just connect your device (iPhone or iPad) to your computer via USB, select an IPA file, and enter your Apple ID.

Windows Cydia Impactor

Saurik developed Impactor to enable users to install third-party applications that are not available in the App Store. Impactor was never intended to jailbreak iOS; there are other applications that can do the jailbreak on your device, (unc0ver, Chimaera, Phoenix, etc.), and Impactor allows you to install them.

Note that Cydia and Cydia Impactor are two separate tools. Cydia is a package manager that many popular jailbreak tools install by default to manage customizations and applications on your jailbroken device. Cydia Impactor, on the other hand, is an iOS desktop IPA installation tool.

Impactor can also

  • open the shell,
  • reboot the device,
  • launch an application,
  • test the backup, enable the bootloader,
  • delete the App ID,
  • revoke certificates,
  • boot the image,
  • lock and unlock the device,
  • download the AOKP,
  • obtain an identification token and debug the device (iOS).

If you install too many applications on your device, or if you use different applications to sign IPA files with the same account, you may see an error.

Revoking certificates is the solution to this type of problem. Luckily, Impactor includes this option.

In addition, Cydia Impactor can sideload APK files on the Android system and exploit a number of Android “master key” vulnerabilities. IPA files cannot be installed on Android devices. This file format is designed for iOS and can only be installed on an iPhone or iPad.

The impactor has been thoroughly tested and is completely safe to use. It will not harm your iOS system and can be downloaded for all major desktop platforms, including Windows, Linux, and Mac.

Impactor Alternatives Sideloadly & AltStore

These are the most common iOS IPA installation tools. Additionally, both receive regular updates from the developers and are compatible with the most recent iOS updates, including the iOS 16 beta. Impactor has left a fine legacy of jailbreaking, but it is now time for new players.

Those tools are now supported for iOS 15–16.

Cydia Impactor is also now working on iOS 15–16. It is possible to use Impactor to install IPA files on iOS 15–16. The only requirement is that you have a paid developer account linked to your Apple ID.

Install the latest version of the Cydia Impactor application, 0.9.56 (released in 2021/2022).

How to sign an iPA file using Cydia Impactor

To sign IPA files with Cydia Impactor on iOS 1516, you must have a confidential Apple ID registered with Apple’s Developer Programme.

This utility does not support the use of a traditional Apple ID or application-specific password to install IPA.

Step 1: Download and unzip Cydia Impactor.

Step 2: Download and install iTunes for Windows (Mac and Linux users can skip this step).

Step 3: Connect your iPhone to your computer via USB.

Step 4: Launch Cydia Impactor and go to the Device Install Package.

Step 5: Select the IPA file you want to install.

Step 6: To sign apps, enter your AppleID and app-specific password.

The developer certificate is valid for one year and will not invalidate any applications installed on your iPhone or iPad.

How do I create a password for an app?

When you sign in and install an iOS app on your device, you need an app-specific password. It allows you to sign in to your account and securely access your iCloud data from a third-party app.

This demonstrates how to create your own app-specific password for installing IPA files on iOS 15 – 16 and earlier. It’s important to understand that an app-specific password is not the same as your Apple ID password!

Step 1: Go to appleid.apple.com.

Step 2: Enter your Apple ID and password.

Step 3: Go to the Login and Security section.

Step 4: Select the app-specific password and enter your password.

Step 5: Give the password a name.

Step 6: Copy the generated password, e.g. jediun-rervwe-sderverd.

Use Impactor on iOS 15

There is no Cydia Impactor for iOS devices, but if you have jailbroken then, you can use a tool called Reprovision Reborn.

Reprovision Reborn is Cydia Impactor’s alternative software that can be used without a desktop. You should have IPA files installed on your iPhone.

Reprovision

ReProvision enables the development of both free and premium Apple accounts. Credentials are passed to Apple’s iTunes Connect API for authentication. You can install a maximum of three applications with a free developer account. ReProvision will automatically repeat the process 7 days after signing.

Install Cydia Extender on iOS 11 and it will register to handle IPA files, allowing you to install them directly from the Safari browser. It can also re-sign and reinstall itself.

Error List

Impactor can provide a wide range of error messages. Here is a list of the most common 2023 Cydia Impactor errors, along with solutions to fix them.
